So. buh dum ching! Haven't posted in a while, here goes, enjoy.
You look lost.
People don't like someone who looks lost.
they wonder why they are there,
how they got there,
what they are doing,
who they are looking for,
how did they get in,
why are they here,
they look lost,
they look out of place,
they look like they don't belong here,
if they don't belong here, why are they here,
walking down the hallway,
slowly,
slowly enough to be able to look at every single persons nametag outside their doors,
we have nametags outside our doors,
so acquaintances can find us? to try to make better friends of someone they just met?
so stalkers can figure out which room to videotape?
so curious members of the opposite sex can run into us?
we have nametags on our doors, to build community, so no one is afraid to approach anyone else because they don't know their names,
you look lost.
slowly walking by,
you head constantly panning from nametag to nametag,
who are you looking for,
he turns around,
starts walking the other way,
either he was too slow to look at both sides of the hall at the same time,
or,
he think he missed it,
and is going back for another look,
you look lost,
he walks back the other way,
is he on the wrong floor,
in the wrong building,
what's he looking for,
headphones on,
grudge-ish clothes, in that trendy sort of way, in that im-trying-to-look-this-way-esque way,
cd player and headphones on,
notepad in one hand,
right hand,
it was orange,
orange doesn't make sense,
but your senses don't lie to you,
I think it was orange,
or maybe just a bright red,
anyway, he looked lost.
he looked lost, one of many, how many people look lost? how many people look like they know where they are going? walking fast, needing to get to a destination, or walking slow, waiting for other stuff to happen before you get there? do we want to look lost? look like we don't care, don't have a clue where we are going, or how we get there? are we the superproductive overachieving children of this generation, destined for the tip-top, the upper percent, the quintessential, infinitesimal, nugatory, Lilliputian, paradigmatic clones of what we are told we want to be like, should be like, dream to be like, spend our life trying to be like.
do you look lost, as he did, do I,
lost in thought walking down the hall,
mentally planning the day, the week, next week, next summer,
can everyone see me as lost? that is if I am?
that don't stop me to ask if I'm lost, as I didn't ask the man in the hall,
when was the last time you stopped someone to ask what they are looking for?
